But somehow she still manages to look completly feminine.

OVERALL PERSONALITY;; While Devin was born as a male he has never felt that was truly what his gender was meant to be so he often, almost always, dresses as a female and many people have mistaken him for a girl. Dev switches easily between the gender prounouns he and she. She has embraced both sides of her personality and it is sometimes difficult to keep up with which pronouns she is using. She is quite proud of who she is and is open about it, letting everyone know what she thinks and who she is. Though her drag style might suggest that she is gay, Dev is actually pansexual (she likes people regardless of gender or gender identification) and doesn't judge anyone based on their physical appearances.

Devin is a rather hyper person, always smiling and jumping around as if she just had alot of caffine, which is likely that she did. She has a rather contangeous personality, or so she had been told, and she is always trying to make those around her smile. Some people have called her rather selfless in that manner but she would be the first to disagree - she knows how selfobsessed she can be. Dev often gets completly obsessed with his appearance and can be like a stereotypical girl in that manner, always fussing over how his hair isn't perfect. His appearance has always been a big thing for him but he does try to be less selfobsessed.

To those who can get over the fact that Dante is a transgender and actually become his friend, he is sweet and kind and a great friend. To those who have a problem with his gender he can have a very aggressive attitude towards them. Dev has actually gotten in many fights with people making fun of his desire to dress as a female. Or if it is a very homophobic guy, she simply flirts with him like crazy and just generally makes him uncomfortable. She won't take anything from anyone and she can be exceedingly protective of her friends.

OVERALL HISTORY;; Devin Taylor Shields was born as the second child, first son, of Andrea and Joseph Shields. They were excited to have a boy, especially Joseph. The pair wanted the sterotypical son to play sports and such but they were extremly disappointed when the boy immediatly seemed to rather play with his sister's dolls and play dress-up with her. They were shocked, to say the least but Jenny loved it. Dev was like a little sister and the two had so much fun playing together. Their parents tried to seperate them, not wanting the girlish influence on their son but it was difficult with how close the young children were.

Four years later, when Dev was four, the parents had another child, a girl. Devin was pushed aside by his older sister a little so the eight year old could fawn over the new child. Sure Dev did fawn over the child a little too but he mainly felt left out as the family focused on the new addition. To try to gain their attention he became more outrageous than before, dressing in all of his sister's clothing but he just got in trouble. He didn't even realize that they thought it was wrong until they took him to a therapist who tried to cure him of his desire to dress as a woman. When Dev started school the next year he had learned to hide his feminine nature, instead trying to fit in with the guys but he always felt different and left out.

By the time Devin got to fourth grade he found he didn't really care what people thought of him. But what caused the change? The therapist he was still going to retired and his parents brought him to a new one. This one didn't so readily claim that there was something wrong with the young boy, instead going to the opposite end and saying that there was something wrong with his parents for not accepting the boy. Their sessions became Devin complaining about how his parents hated him and how he hated not being able to be himself. He felt uncomfortable in his own skin, like he was hiding something of himself.

During middle school Dev truly began to realize himself and become more comfortable with who he was and how he looked. Sixth grade was when he started wearing eyeliner and sometimes feminine clothing. Throughout his later years at elementary school he had began to realize his attraction towards men, especially during the period where girls had cooties. He came out to his entire school as bisexual in seventh grade and while he had to endure teasing and fights constantly, he was a strong kid and could take care of himself. But then his school therapist called home and told his parents what had been happening and how the young boy had 'come out.' That's when the beatings started. His parents were disgusted by their 'faggot son' and every day he would go to school with new bruises. He could deal with the fights at school because he could fight back but he couldn't fight back with his parents. It never even occured to him to call the police.

Devin became known as the token bisexual of his school all throughout middle school because he was the only person who was 'out' in the school. That's not to say he was the only one, he had plenty of sexual encounters with other guys. He acted cheerful and girly and everyone either loved him or hated him. He became rather popular - all the girls wanted to be friends with him and the guys would grudginly befriend him because he was a good basketball and soccer player and was the best track runner. Those that hated him normally went to the extreme of harrassing him every day. The boy slowly began to hate his life, family and school. His life was slowly becoming unbearable and the beatings were getting to the point where he couldn't hide them from his friends.

In the middle of eight grade Devin began cutting himself and drawing away from his friends. He threw himself into his sports to help try to escape from everything. His friends just let him go, showing how fake of friends they actually were. Only his siblings seemed to care about him, his little brother actually looked up to him. His parents were still the same, still beat the boy, making him feel so worthless that he actually began to believe it.

He went through the years in a daze, sleeping through the girls and the guys, even those that claimed to be straight. He was a good sports player and people still wanted to be his friend because of it but he was so sure that they would all hurt him. Then one day when he was in his sophmore year his father came home later, extremly drunk to find Devin dressed in his new dress, a cute but short, skimpy thing. Joseph flew into a rage and beat and raped his son. Devin ended up in a hospital. He was visited by his siblings and friends but never his parents. His father, somehow, got off or just wasn't caught, Dev never thought to ask. He had to stay in the hospital for a month and a half, recovering, then he was sent to an inpatient facility for depression. They had found the cuts.

Once Devin was released from the hospital he absolutly refused to go home. He stayed with an old friend for the night but the next day he went to his house to get his stuff. Everyone was off at school or work and since he had a key it was easy to get in. He took all his clothes, his laptop, money and all he needed to clear out his bank accounts where he went to later. He left notes for his siblings and one for his parents, an absolutly hateful one that promised that he would always hate them. And with that he left his childhood home and when to New York City, staying there as a homeless pickpocketing prostitute. He hated it and wanted nothing more than to get away. So one day he just packed up and left, moving around the country, trying to find someplace to take him in. It didn't actually take long for Devin to get to Chicago and to the only place that would take him in and make him feel safe again. Maybe now he can start over?
