Devin hadn't been in Chicago for more than a week but he had already settled into the school. That didn't mean he felt comfortable there yet though. For months he had been living on the streets, trying to save his money so he wouldn't run out and starve to death. Before he had come to Chicago he hadn't slept in a comfortable bed since the night after he was let out of the hospital. This was all too much, too fast. He wasn't supposed to find someplace to take him in. He was broken, dirty, sinful... damaged. Dev didn't think he deserved to start over.
Since he had gotten to the city he had taken to wandering it, trying to find where everything was. It was difficult to break old habitats so he also found himself 'working the corner' sometimes with some other transvestites that he had met. So much for being over with that part of his life. It just kept coming back, haunting him. It didn't help that he hadn't spoken to anyone except costumers or other prostitutes in months. Maybe if he started talking to other kids at the school? No, that wouldn't work. He's broken. What could anyone see in him?
With no thought in his mind except I need to get away, Devin ran from the school, towards the park he had found not too long ago. It wasn't anything like Central Park but it was something that reminded him of home. He needed that connection lest his old life just slip away. Dev needed to remember why he was here, what had happened to him. Maybe one day he'd be able to go home and face everything but until then he just had to remember. As long as he remembered he wouldn't be hurt again.
As he arrived at the park, Devin slowed to a leisurely pace, not really having anywhere to be. Soon he simply moved to sit on a bench, pulling out the phone he had gotten in New York City. He stared at it, wanting to call his sisters but afraid to. They had kept in contact for a little while but soon it fell apart and he hadn't heard from them since. Eventually he gave up and opened the phone, typing in his older sister's cellphone number before writing a text. Jenny, I'm sorry. I cant tell you where I am but I miss you. I need to see how you are. ~ Devin With a sigh he sent the message before closing his eyes and leaning back in the bench, only to open them a moment later to look around. He was restless. So he stood and started walking, a tiny smile coming to his face as he looked around at the gorgeous park.
