This was it. Peter was finally going to give Ashton the guitar that he had been saving up for. Ever since he had seen Ashton playing guitar, well, something became oddly obvious to him. There was no way that Peter could make Ashton completely happy. That wasn't exactly a thought that sat well with Peter. He had a genuine need to make people happy. But seeing that in a way there was no way that he could really fill in that void, well, Peter knew the one way he could. Peter wanted to reintroduce Ashton to music. The boy had a music shaped hole in his heart, and Peter wasn't willing to let that hole stay there. So Peter had worked his ass off to raise money for the guitar. He had seen in before he had even started dating Ashton, thinking that it would be a nice guitar to own for himself. But Peter wouldn't betray Eleanor so the next person in line was Ashton. Not only had Peter bought the guitar, but he had something engraved on the back of it. In a loose script was written, 'Ashton Cole Johnson' then next to that was, 'strawberry fields forever'.
It was truly a present from Peter's heart. Peter had never really gone all out like that with gift giving. It was something that Peter thought Ashton would need so it was a lot easier for him to spend the money. Peter kept the guitar in his closet. Ashton didn't often look in the closet and Peter had made sure that the last couple of times Ashton came over he didn't even have to open the closet. He sat on his bed, smoothing out his sweat pants. Peter leaned back, allowing Hobo to climb up and lay on his chest. Hobo had done quite the amout of damage to Eleanor, but luckily Peter knew how to fix it. He had taken Eleanor and sanded her down so that the scratches weren't visible and recoated her with the finish that made her shine like a pro. Peter had become a pro at fixing Eleanor on his own just because he couldn't always afford to take her somewhere. He stroked Hobo with a smile, closing his eyes. "You can't scratch Strawberry Fiels, Hobes." Peter said with a laugh, "Eleanor might get upset with you."
Hobo didn't seem to care. She just curled up on Peter's chest. Peter couldn't resist petting her. Hobo had wiggled her way into his heart really fast. That was the only reason he hadn't been upset with her for scratching Eleanor. It wouldn't be long before Ashton arrived. Peter was still sort of worried about how Ashton would react to the guitar. Peter had fallen in love with the guitar when he had first seen it. He just hoped that Ashton would too. The last time Peter had said anything about Ashton playing guitar... it hadn't worked well. Ashton had overreacted and said some harsh things to him. But Peter never thought twice anymore when Ashton said things like that. That just showed Peter that Ashton needed it and Peter would give it to him. Ashton would be in for a surprise when he reached the room. Peter huffed softly, "What do you think, Hobo? Do you think Ash will like it?" Hobo lefted her head, looking at Peter. Peter looked down at her with a worried expression. "I mean, you know, he doesn't have to take it. I just..."
Peter trailed off and scratched Hobo's ear. "It shouldn't have happened this fast, Hobo. I shouldn't have fallen in love so fast." Hobo looked away, sniffing at Peter's blue shirt. "I tried, Hobo, to not get too attached... to leave it at the basic form of a relationship. But I... well, now it's like I'm not having a good day if I don't see him." Peter continued to scratch Hobo's ear. "Is it really love, Hobo? I don't know. Maybe it is, maybe it isn't. I guess we'll see though." Peter smiled as Hobo moved up and licked his cheek. "Aw, I'm glad you love me, Hobes." He said with a laugh. "I can always count on you, right girl?" Peter laughed as Hobo continued to lick his face and crawl all over him. She was still in the puppy stages, but Peter could tell that she was starting to get bigger and grow out of a lot of those puppy things that she would do. Hobo was still playful, she just wasn't as often as she used to be.

Ashton glanced at the clock. HE should really get going. He told Peter hed come over tonight, but he was so unmotivated. Granted Peter should be a motivator, and technically he was. Ashton was getting up, that was a lot farther then he would normally have gone for anyone right now. He was curious to know what Peter was going on about. He was also slightly apprehensive. Ashton wasnt big on surprises and he wasnt used to getting things from people. Ashton had rarely been able to have things, his father either destroyed it or got rid of it so hed learned not to bring anything home.
Rubbing his eyes he grabbed his cabby hat. Yeah he knew he was just going down to Peters room but so what, he was still going to bring that hat. Ashton ran his hand along luna as he passed her at the foot of the bed. "you're staying here girl..' he mumbled to her and she purred and rolled onto her back. Ashton raised his brows and sighed rubbing her stomach. He started up near her paws then went down. She was such a weird cat. He started rubbing her a second time and she made an annoyed meow and started attacking his hand. "what! You're the one that wanted it... he sighed and shook his head. "Fine.. he pulled his hand back, a couple of raised red scratch marks appearing on his hand and wrist. "no biting..' he tapped the tip of her nose and then moved away from the bed.
Alright... im gonna go now. he said to her and walked over making sure she had food and water. "dont eat it all at once. I know you. Your such a cow.' he smirked at her and then headed over to the door slipping out of it and then shut it making his way down towards Peters room.
Knocking once he waited a couple seconds and then gave another knock before opening the door as always. "hey.. he said stepping in and closing the door. "You rang..' he smirked and raised a brow. Hobos ears perked and he bounded over towards Ashton. "hey hobes. he knelt down scratching behind his ear before picking hobo up "getting so big... he kissed the top of her head, smoothing her fur down afterward. She was still pretty small but bigger then before. Ashton made his way over towards Pete. "How you doing? he asked.

Peter was pretty used to Ashton just walking in after a couple of knocks. It might as well be Ashton's room too so Peter didn't see any need in Ashton having to just wait outside for him to come and answer the door. Of course, as soon as Ash walked in Hobo immediately reacted. It was always easier for Hobo to get attention when Luna didn't come along. Peter smiled, watching Ashton greet Hobo as if Hobo were a child. Well, Hobo was like their child. That had been one point that Ashton had made early on that had actually pushed them closer together rather than pushing them apart like Peter was sure it may have been intended to do. The point was that they hadn't been pushed a part and Peter had the little makeshift family he had always wanted since his own hadn't been all that wonderful. He tilted his head when Ashton walked toward him, asking how he was doing.
Standing, Peter moved closer to Ashton, wrapping his arms around Ashton's skinny waist and pecking Ashton's lips. "Mm, I'm doing okay." He answered with a smile. "I'll be doing better when I get this present stuff out of the way." Peter pulled away from Ashton, leaning against his desk for support. "Um, well, yeah... you know you don't have to keep it if you don't want it." Peter hoped that Ashton did want it. It would be hard to sell back, but Peter would be able to do it. All he would have to do would be sand it down so that the engraving wasn't visible and repolish it. The guitar would look like new. It would be a lot of work, though. Plus, Peter wanted to think that he had done something good for Ashton rather than something that wouldn't be appreciated. He was absolutely positive that Ashton needed music. It had to be a sure fire shot and peter wanted to take it.
Peter slowly moved toward his closet, nerves wanting to take over more than anything else. "Close your eyes." He said with a nervous smile as he stopped at the closet door and turned back to face Ashton. "Or turn around... one of those." Peter wouldn't pull the guitar out until he was sure that Ashton wasn't looking. He didn't want there to be any chance of Ashton shooting it down before he could even get it fully out of the closet. Really, though, for a guitar that Peter was able to find at such a cheap price, well, it was beautiful. Peter couldn't see how Ashton would be able to turn Strawberry Fields down. She was truly a beautiful guitar, rivaling even Eleanor. If Peter were selfish enough he would have taken Strawberry Fields for himself nad passed Eleanor down to Ashton. Okay... myabe not that extreme, but still... it was a good guitar.
Strawberry was an Ibanez, one of the best brands out there for guirars. She was shiney all over. The neck of the guitar was a dark colored wood that seemed to reflect a reddish tint to it. The body of Strawberry Fields was a very nice black shade. Peter would have looked for more of the classic colored guitar, but he really thought the black fit Ashton. The strings were sharp, shiney, and metal, sitting close to the fret board. The guitar still had a lot of shine to it even though the owner claimed he had used and reused it. There was a bit of a classic feel from the guitar anyway. Just looking at the guitar Peter felt like he was able to jump into a new era of music. All Peter could hope was that the guitar would inspire something like that in Ashton as well.

Ashton pulled Hobo closer to him as Peter closed the distance between them and pecked his lips. Ashton smirked some and nodded. "Same here... he said, stroking Hobos fur as Peter stepped back. He dropped his gaze onto hobo as she wiggled in his arms. "yeah okay.. okay..' he bent down to set hobo on the ground and then straightened up raising his brows a bit. "hmm...' was all he said towards peters comment. It would be pretty shitty of him not to accept his present no matter what it was, but really Peter wasnt helping in easing his unease about this whole present business. What the hell did he get him that he was so worried about Ashton liking it or not. He was seriously getting a little nervous here.
Ashton watched him move to the closet door, giving him a sort of blank look when he told him to close his eyes. '... o.. kay..' he licked his lips a bit as he rubbed his neck and turned around as well as closing his eyes. "There... um.. Im.. im not looking.' he droped his hand to his side, flicking his fingers against his thigh.
From the way Peter was acting he obviously put a lot into this present. Could ashton really turn him down right then? No it couldnt be this serious. He would take whatever it was. I mean if he really hated it... he could just... well it really just depended on what it was. Ashton really could not come up with any ideas of what i could be to even give himself examples.
He licked his lips again, his fingers flicking against each other as he was starting to get anxious. He just wanted this done and over with. Rip it off like a band aide no matter how it may go. He had already opened and closed his mouth several times to move peter along, but decided against it. He just kept telling himself it wasnt as weird as peter was making it sound.

Peter watched quietly as Ashton turned away. He opened the closet door, wondering the whole time if it was the right time. Maybe Ashton wasn't ready for it or better yet maybe Peter wasn't ready for it. Hesitating slightly, Peter drew in a deep breath. He didn't know why he felt so nervous. Strawberry fields was a great guitar. Peter wasn't sure that anyone could deny her a home. Peter pulled Strawberry Fields from the closet fully, taking a moment to marvel in her beauty. He loved the guitar, really, but he didn't know if Ashton would and that scared him. What if Ashton refused to take it? What if Ashton made him return it? There were too many things that could go wrong and Peter just really didn't want to risk it, but at the same time he knew that Ashton had been good to him and deserved it. Ashton really deserved the guitar and Peter could always argue until Ashton accepted it. He held his breath as he turned toward Ashton. It was now or never.
Walking closer to Ashton, Peter held out the guitar and looked over it once more. Peter knew that he wouldn't be able to hide it from Ashton anymore. "Okay, you can look now." Peter said softly. "It might be a bit much, but, um, yeah... you don't HAVE to take it." Peter spun the guitar in his hands, flashing the paint job and the carving in the back. "I wasn't sure if you'd want a name on it... but I went beatles... kind of like Eleanor, but the next best song. Meet Strawberry Fields, Ash." Peter smiled, thinking that possibly Ashton might not react that badly. There was a slight chance that Ashton would be happy about it. Peter had gone out on a limb and took a risk. Peter stopped turning Strawberry Fields, and looked down at her. He wasn't quite sure yet if he wanted to really see Ashton's reaction quite yet.
"I thought maybe that you could use one. I mean, I know that one time in the music room you weren't too... well, I don't know, but I just..." Peter paused, looking up to Ashton. "You might deny it, but I think you need music." He drew in a deep breath, hoping Ashton understood. Peter wasn't the best at putting things into words. He licked his lips, thinking that Ashton would either react good or bad... there couldn't be an inbetween. Not on this.

Ashton was seriously starting to get nervous about what this could be. Peter was taking so much care about it. Finally when ashton didnt think he could wonder much longer Peter told him he could look. Ashton turned toward him again, his eyes opening and he stood there, first looking at Peter and then his eyes dropped to what was in his hand. At first he wasnt sure what to think but then Peter twirled it in his hands, flashing him the paint job. The guitar was amazing.
Ashton had never been given anything like this to himself before. He felt his chest tightening and if he were the type to cry he just might but he didnt. Instead he stood there, his eyes moving over the paint and the shape and even the carving that was there. Strawberry fields. He liked it. It for some reason always surprised him whenever he learned another thing he and Peter had in common. It really shouldnt, as for tastes especially in music they always seemed to agree, but he couldnt help the surprise anyway.
He reached a hand out to touch it, though he pulled it back quickly as if burned when Peter mention the music room and that he thought he needed music in his life. Ashton frowned and shook his head. "You dont know what I need he said a little more heated then he had meant to.
really he didnt mean to snap, but this was out of his comfort zone. Why was peter doing this? giving him this gift. Ashton didnt deserve this at all especially something as beautiful as this guitar. Really it must have cost a fortune. He recognized the brand, knew that it was a very good quality brand and he was floored. Hell he should be strucky by lightening by putting his filthy hands on it at all. Ashton imagined the smuch marks his fingers probably made even in that brief touch and he wanted to go put some gloves on and then clean it of his marks.
Ashton looked away. Maybe peter wasnt actually giving him it. Maybe he was jumping the gun, just showing him a guitar he had that he wanted Peter to use. Yeah maybe that was it, besides with that assy comment, peter should just take the guitar and tell ashton to go fuck himself. Ashton placed his balled fists into his pockets. He hated not knowing what to do in sitations like this. Why couldnt it have been a notebook or something. That he could understand, but a guitar. An Ibanez ... a very beautiful guitar.
Ashton definitely was not naive enough to think he was worth something enough to have something like that.

At first peter thought that Ashton might like what he had gotten him. The way it seemed like Ashton didn't know what to say... the way Ashton reached his hand out to touch it. But Peter knew he messed up when Ashton practically jerked his hand away. It wasn't the action that took Peter off guard, but the comment afterward. Peter bit his lower lip, trying not to react right away. He wanted to be sure that was all Ashton was going to say before he started speaking.
When Ashton looked away Peter knew that was his moment to react. "Ash, I may not know what you need. It's just my opinion that you need this." Peter said, trying to remain as calm as possible while speaking. He held the guitar out flat over his hands toward Ashton. "Just... I... hear me out, okay?" He really hoped that Ashton would listen...and maybe refrain from the snipey comebacks until he was through.
"Remember a while back when we were talking and you said that I couldn't promise forever?" Peter looked down to the guitar in his hands. "Well, you're right, Ashton, I can't promise you that and it would be a lie if I said I could." He drew in a deep breath, thinking of which direction he needed to go in. "Well, I got to thinking and I kind of realized that Eleanor was the only thing I have that has the ability to promise me forever."
"I mean... not as a guitar, but just... music lasts forever, you know?" Peter finally moved the guitar to hold it by the neck. He sighed, sitting down on the edge of his bed. Really, he should have known Ashton wouldn't want to take it. Peter wouldn't dare force anything on Ashton. If he didn't want the guitar... then Peter would find something to do with it somehow. It wouldn't be the end of the world. Peter couldn't deny that he was just a little disappointed.
Peter shrugged, "I can't promise forever, and I kind of hate that. But I--" Peter exhaled, laying the guitar behind him on the bed. "I don't know... maybe that doesn't make sense to you." He wrinkled his nose, "Sounded better up here." He replied, pointing to his head. "You don't have to take the guitar, Ash."

Ashton snorted. "yeah... sure his tone dry and slightly under his breath. He was about to make another comment but decided he would let peter talk. He wasnt sure if he wanted to hear it, but the part of him that was telling him that pete didnt deserve his assholeness right now, was a little louder then it normally was. Well it usually was when it came to peter in general. Ashton brought hand up to rub at his forhead above his right eyebrow. He was starting to feel a headache coming on and he really wished he had some asprin or something.
Ashton nodded as he brought up that memory. Yeah he remembered. He remembered a lot of things pertaining to peter even the littlest things. running his tongue over his bottom lip and quirked a brow. He brought the corner of his lip in between his teeth biting it a bit as he dropped his eyes. Yeah he knew he had said that to pete, though sometimes when you say things and really is what you mean, but when the person you wished could actually do that says that they know its impossible, kind of drops something in you. Ashton was feeling that but only for a brief moment, he stopped himself. He knew these things hed been the one to point them out.
As peter went on to explain about eleanore and music ashton mentally nodded. He knew what Peter meant. Music was always there. It was in everything even those little mental moments you have at times. Ashton loved music, but hed written it off, given up on it when he thought hed failed it. Peter though, he seemed to think he was good enough to give it another try. He was no where near as talented as Peter, he didnt understand how he could think he should be able to play. Let alone on something like strawberry fields. Sometimes he envied Peters musical talents, then at other times he was happy that pete got them of all people. IT just seemed to fit with him so naturally he couldnt think of anyone more deserving of it. He really hoped that Peter got the musical career hes always wanted.
Ashton could see him out of the corner of his eyes as Peter took a seat setting the guitar behind him on the bed. Ashtons teeth bit down harder on his lip and he could taste the little bit of metallic taste of blood on his tongue. His fingers dug into his arm where they were resting crossed across his chest. He could tell that Peter was disheartened about him refusing it and he hated when peter was unhappy. He gave a small shrug and a sigh. He knew what peter meant. He understood that, but he didnt say anything. He licked the wounded lip a bit before finally letting it go and lifted his eyes up to Peter. He tilted his head slightly.
I like the guitar pete..' he said he reached one hand out and rubbed peters side a bit offering him a small smirk. He didnt want to talk about this anymore. He wanted to get Pete on a different subject one that would make him forget how much of a dick his boyfriend was and smile. He kind of needed Petes smile right now and he didnt know why. Sometimes he just needed it, it made him feel warm. He didnt feel that warm right now.

Peter was sort of disappointed. He didn’t know what Ashton’s problem with music was. The bad thing about thinking for Peter was that he tended to over think a few things. It wasn’t that Peter didn’t want to be forever for Ashton, but there were certain things that just made him feel like he could die any day. The nightmares weren’t helping any. He always seemed to die in his dreams and it just wasn’t fair. But the forever thing had been a breaking point for Peter. He desperately wanted to be Ashton’s forever. At the same time… he didn’t know if Ashton wanted him to be forever. If Ashton were to tell him that he wanted forever, then Peter would work harder than ever to attain that no matter how impossible it seemed to be. But just in case Peter couldn’t give Ashton that he thought Strawberry Fields would be able to do that. It looked like he was wrong.
As Ashton reached out to touch him and said that he liked the guitar Peter offered a small smile as he stood, reaching out to place his hands on Ashton’s waist. “You do?” He mused, pressing a soft kiss to Ashton’s lips. “Good, cause I’m standing my ground, baby.” Peter said, his smile growing by the second. He kissed Ashton once more, but a little deeper this time. As many times as Peter would let people walk all over him he had his stubborn moments too. The matter wouldn’t be pressed any further at the moment, but it was sort of a forewarning to Ashton that this was something Peter cared about. He wanted his boy friend to be happy. Not a crime… at least not one punishable by law. Ashton was important to him and there was no way he could sit back and pretend he didn’t notice there was something Ashton was missing.
But Peter slowly pulled Ashton closer, fully wrapping his arms around Ash’s skinny waist and resting his forehead on Ashton’s shoulder. Peter put up with a lot from Ashton, mostly concerning attitude. Sometimes buttons would be pushed, things would be said, and feelings would get hurt, but that was stuff that Peter was willing to put up with. Sure it sometimes seemed unfair, but Peter wouldn’t complain. Ashton could have all the preconceived notions he wanted about Peter being too good for him or something like that, but Peter stood firm on the fact that he had chosen Ashton on his own. He knew what he would be getting into and it didn’t scare him to think that he would be dating Ashton. Peter knew just about everything about Ashton there was to know and it had taken him quite a while to get that far… there was no way he would give up so soon.
Peter eventually looked back up, pressing his lips to Ashton’s. They had been together for a while and Peter was still surprised to find that he was still fully addicted to Ashton’s lips. Peter pulled away from the kiss, hoping that everything would be okay. It was amazing how Ashton made him feel. Sure he was still a little disappointed, but at least he could smile. Smiling is good for Peter. It really was a good thing that Peter was so used to Ashton’s little mood swings. The guitar could wait, Peter decided. He just wanted to focus on Ashton. Despite popular opinion, Peter still thought Ashton was the best boy friend ever. For every moment Ashton acted like a dick, there was another where Ashton would go all out and surprise him. Peter liked to remember the pleasant times that Ashton would surprise him.
