Ashton looked down at him, brows still furrowed. He shook his head and looked away before looking back at him. "I am retarded at everything else. Everything that it is... you want and.. he sighed. mmm... you're not a bad friend. Obviously not, you have a million friends. Fuck... I dont even know why I suggested we be friends, you dont need another friend. Specially one that always makes you feel like crap." he moved his hand up to rub at the back of his neck again his eyes finding Hobo and following him as he bounced around, sniffing curiously. "Maybe we should just scrap this idea. It was stupid..' he mumbled.
Out of the corner of his eye he saw Peter stand up and then he was closer to him. Ashton didnt move though he told himself he should move away. Whenever Peter was in some close distance to him he always felt like he should be closer. He hated that feeling. One of the things Ashton hated most was feeling like he wasnt in control, granted that was usually if someone was forcing him into stuff physically, but he could relate it to this as well. A force forcing his body to move closer to peter... it was kind of the same.
When Peter spoke Ashton was glad for the words. He looked up at him taking barely a few moments to figure that agreeing would be best. Not only would it get them out of this funk but the conversation they were having was a bit too much right now. He nodded at him. "Yeah... okay..' he said and glanced around finding hobo. He looked back at Peter and smirked.
"Too bad we didnt have a frisbee or... foot ball or something..' he shrugged. "Could play catch... Hobo likes that...' he said and moved away from Peter to walk over, his eyes having caught sight of a particularly good throwing stick earlier. HE picked it up and banged the tip against the ground whistling for hobo to come over. "Come on boy" he said and then grinned as he hurried over, his ears perked up when he caught sight of the stick.
"You want this?' he held it above hobos head teasingly before pulling back and throwing it. Hobo watched for a couple seconds before launching off after it, ears flopping. Ashton laughed and knelt down again as she came back with the stick. It was just a little too big for her, she was still a small puppy. Ashton playfullly wrestled it from him and then threw it again.

What he wanted? Peter wasn't altogether sure about what he wanted, but apparently Ashton thought he was retarded when it came down to that. He hadn't thought Ashton thought that much about what he wanted. That didn't matter, what mattered was what Ashton had said next. "Oh, Ash..." Peter said with a worried expression. "You don't make me feel like crap all the time. But no friend goes all the time without making the other feel like crap. Hell, sometimes Taylor and Cait make me feel like crap." Peter was scared. He didn't want to think that Ashton's taking back the friends thing was dooming them. All or nothing, Peter chanted to himself. It was all or nothing and Peter wasn't sure if he could handle that. There was a lot of thinking to do and a lot of stuff that he and Ashton probably needed to work on if they were going to continue to be around eachother.
Peter didn't mind the small silence after he had said his comment about forgetting he had said anything. He grinned when Ashton smirked and said something about wishing they had a frisbee or something. One of Peter's games with Hobo in his room was with balled up paper. Peter would toss it in the air and Hobo would try and hit it with his nose. He didn't have many toys for Hobo besides a tug-of-war rope, which was Peter's favorite. He liked to get Hobo really going because when Peter would shake the rope Hobo would emit a playful, puppy-like growl. Peter watched Hobo run after the stick the first time, pick it up and run it back. Then his eyes were trained on Ashton as the boy wrestled the stick from Hobo's grip and threw it again.
Peter slowly walked up to where Ashton stood, watching Hobo run after the stick. "The stick's almost as big as she is." Peter said with a smile. "It's too cute watching her run with it." Keeping the conversation centered around Hobo seemed like it would be the best idea. He didn't want to cause any riffs. Besides, Hobo was the one thing they had between them that would be permanent unless things got bad enough that Ashton would want to take Hobo back for good. Peter hoped nothing that serious ever happened. so far the joint custody thing was working out for them. Peter had both Hobo and Ashton in his life and he didn't want to lose either of them.

Ashton shrugged slightly. "You've known them longer' he said. '"They're you're true friends. I dont think you could stand if you didnt see them again. As for me... he shrugged. "You just met me not too long ago. you can stand not to have me around. Its not as if Im oxygen or food or something. he uncrossed his hands, putting them on his hips in stead. He really should be arguing this better. Instead he was giving some really lame excuses. He knew why though. He really didnt want to give up whatever connection he had with peter. T hat thought alone was annoying, but mostly because he tried to spend a lot of his time trying to tell himself he didnt want that.
He sighed and shook his head. "It would get hard though. Sharing Hobo and trying to do it without like.. .seeing each other or whatever. Besides Hobo he seems to know things, hes got that sixth sense. He would be able to tell and then hed get all mopey like he did before. Its really not worth it. I like it when Hobos not like that cause then shell play with LUna and then luna will be happy and really its probably best to just... not drop the friendship.' he reasoned out. Ashton had been the one trying to drop the friendship but in the end it sounded as if he was trying to convince peter why they shouldnt.
When Peter walked up to him talking about the stick being almost as big as her, Ashton smirked and nodded. "I know.. its so adorable.' he laughed lightly as she brought it back again veering from Ashton to have Peter throw it this time instead. "you should take her..' he said. "I mean... you know. Since... shes yours and all.' he rubbed his neck. "she really missed you.' Ashton repeated for the millionth time. If he was actually paying attention to himself hed realize he was using Hobo to tell Peter that hed actually been the one that had missed him.

Obviously there was a part of Peter that needed Ashton. Sure Peter may not need him more than oxygen or food, but the mere fact that Peter had been unable to continue the ignoring thing showed that Peter wouldn't be able to stand losing him. What had caused Peter to think like that? Before meeting Ashton Peter was every bit of undateable. He wasn't the kind of that that would settle down that easily, but somehow Ashton made him want to change that despite the fact that Ashton didn't. Peter's fears were confirmed, though that Ashton was saying that stuff about him being able to go without him. He didn't want to lose Ashton, not that quickly. But if that was what Ashton wanted, then Peter wasn't sure he could make Ashton do anything differently.
So that was it... Ashton wanted even their friendship to end just like that... Peter didn't know what to say. But Ashton suddenly started to change directions. Peter looked at him, not knowing what to make of it. Every reason Ashton listed sounded like another reason they should continue to try and make the friendship worked. "Uh, yeah... not drop the friendship." Peter said with a nod. He couldn't think of anything else to say and he didn't want to make Ashton reconsider. Everything was so unstable between the two of them. It was really no wonder nothing seemed to work. Again Peter had to think all or nothing.
It was good that the conversation was centered on Hobo... it had to be good. Peter laughed as he took the stick from Hobo's mouth and threw it. As Hobo took off after it excitedly Peter glanced to Ashton. "Mm, yeah... I'll take her back. It was stupid of me to abandon her like that." Peter couldn't believe that he had done that to Hobo just because he had gotten upset over something. Hobo didn't deserve that and Peter knew it. He could only imagine how Hobo might have taken it. It was no wonder that Hobo had reacted so excitedly to him.
Dogs had no sense of time. So for Hobo it could have been sort of like Peter was never going to come pack. Peter hated that Hobo could have even thought that. He smiled, "I missed her too... a lot. It'll be good to have my snuggle buddy back." Peter really did miss Hobo, but he missed more than just Hobo. He was pretty sure that he had missed Ashton too, but he left it at that. Peter knew he wouldn't be able to tell Ashton that without having a freak out on his hands. The sad thought occurred to him that he would never really be able to show Ashton how he really felt.
