Outsiders might say the girl has multiple personalities, which is an acceptable excuse in a place like this. Leah Marie acts very differently when in differing company. There is no real reasoning behind it, and it’s almost as though she’s been programmed to act the way she does. She has no control over it and it seems to depend upon who she’s around.

Personality one has been named “Leah.” This side of her comes out whenever a parent or a teacher is around. Leah Marie has always been Mommy’s Sweet Little Girl. Well, at least that’s what her parents think. She plays the part of the perfect daughter and plays it very well. She’s polite, well mannered, and pleasant. In fact, put her at a dinner party with a bunch of 40 year olds and Leah Marie could charm the pants off the entire group and keep their attention.

Personality two has been named “Marie.” This personality is reserved for acquaintances and enemies. Marie is the pleasant friendly girl that loves to chat about her weekend plans or where she got her newest pair of jeans and just make people feel miserable with how awesome she is. Since the move, however, this personality has been fairly subdued and hasn’t made as many appearances as it did back home and throughout high school.

Personality three, her least commonly known, is named “Jaelyn.” Jaelyn can only be recognized by the select few [namely James and a boyfriend, when someone’s gotten that class]. Jael is the laid back and up for anything girl that just wants to have a good time. Her idea of a good time is just wasting her time with people she likes, not a big request for a 22 year old.

In the typical family fashion, Jared and Lauren met, hit it off, and started their “ideal American family.” The two Catholics had everything. The two children [one boy, one girl], a dog, a white house, and even a white picket fence out front. Yes. Everything seemed to be “Ideal American Family” for these two. Everything was just right. What made it better was that the two kids got along [since they were only one year apart] and they were respectful.

One might say that Jared and Lauren were pushing their luck when they sent both children to the local prestigious Catholic high school, but in actuality, James and Leah Marie earned their spots. James Michael Kiprusoff enrolled first, obviously, and had a year of experience before our darling Leah Marie Jaelyn Kiprusoff made her dramatic entrance. She seemed to fit in with the popular girls right away, but that would soon change.

For three years Leah Marie was sitting on top of the world. Her brother was the attractive upperclassman, and she was the attractive underclassman. She had all the right friends, went to all the right parties, got all the right grades, and [shamelessly] hooked up with all the right boys. Things seemed to be absolutely flawless in her life. But then it all took a turn.

Right before Leah Marie’s senior year, James left for college. This sent her into a depressed like state. She began sleeping less. Other random things began happening as well. She continued to go to school and get her good grades. She continued to put on the act around her friends and family. The only thing was, with her best friend gone, who would see through her lies? Who would call her out on the fact that she actually needed to be helped?

Well she managed to lie her way through nine months. Then the only person who knew how to read her like a book came home for summer. It didn’t take more than a week before he was campaigning to his parents to pay attention to her. Clearly she wasn’t being herself, but he couldn’t put his finger on it. That final sign popped up when Leah Marie went running to her parents screaming about her own flesh and blood, James, was actually an imposter. It was right around then that Jared and Lauren decided they could not ignore what was going on right in front of them.

After a few weeks of testing and countless trips to the psychiatrist office, Leah Marie Kiprusoff was hit with a triple diagnosis. The least troublesome of the three was insomnia. That hadn’t killed anyone yet and was at least livable. The other two, however, were slightly more drastic. Leah Marie was also diagnosed with Borderline Personality Disorder AND Capgras's Syndrome. This was a bit of a shock to the Kiprusoff parents seeing as how they hadn’t even noticed a shift in their darling baby.

So, instead of heading off to college, Leah Marie was set up in all different kinds of therapy as she tried to hold down a steady part time job. She was going to be allowed to head off to college the next fall, but that just wasn’t good enough. Shortly after her eighteenth birthday, Leah Marie wrote her parents a letter, packed her bags, and hit the road. Her plan was to leave Bangor, Maine far behind and get out on her own. There had to be a way for her to do this.

Her journey stopped in Chicago as her funds began to dwindle. Having only been there an hour, Leah Marie found St. John's. The institution seemed like the exact place she should have been. Knowing that she'd never be okay on her own, Leah Marie checked herself in... a little more than one year ago.
